This year’s competition has seen a big step up in speeds, with 12 cars going faster than 300km/hr over the 1000m. Last year’s winning time would only have been good enough for 10th place!
It seems the call to #stepupyourgame was heard and entrants responded.

I strongly suspect that next year, the record will be smashed, and the competition will be even fiercer.
If you can make it to the town of Albany for Racewars 2019 – I’d strongly recommend it.
The town openly embraces the event and the visitors, and makes for an awesome holiday spot to unwind after the action.
Racewars Sprint
After the big event on the Sunday, the following day was a public holiday (no work, yay!) so a number of competitors hung around for this event.
As a short tarmac circuit with timing, some people took it serious and cut some fast times, others as simply as an opportunity to toast tyres and get sideways on some closed roads.
With Australia’s often draconian laws regarding spirited driving – who can blame them?
It was great to see that the variety seen at the airport was also evident at the sprint – with Australian, American and Japanese cars all out in force.
Local drifter Brendan Greaves took the opportunity to absolutely destroy a few sets of tyres – his twin turbocharged LS swapped S15 cutting loose.
