Racewars 2018- Top Speed Racing Done the Australian Way!

,

Simon Richards took out the event again this year in his RB26 R32 GTR – newly equipped with a sequential gearbox. Not a bad result after a 291km/hr run over the 1000m event the day prior.

The R32 GTR proves its versatility with a win on tarmac.

Industrial silos are not what you normally see trackside.

This tarmac rally prepped Ford Escort was flung around the corners with precision driving.

Event Sponsor Adam Monck was happy to fry tires for the crowd in his Twin Turbo LS S14 Silvia.

This Z06 Corvette is rare in Australia, despite sharing its V8 heart with locally produced sedans.

Cones marking the corners for the drift cars soon became targets.

Racewars seems set to grow from strength to strength in the next few years. There is already talk of running the 1000m V-Max event in the opposite direction, or first thing in the morning to combat the strong headwind, and combined with the ever increasing power levels, and aerodynamics of entrants, next year is likely to see the Australian speed record of 336km/hr smashed.

The event has secured an ongoing relationship with the Albany council to run the event through to at least 2020 and with strong support from entrants and spectators, and being now the only 1000m V-max event in the country, it will remain one of Australia’s must see Motorsport events.
