The i in i-VTEC refers to the variable cam phasing part of the system. The intake sprocket can hydraulically adjust the cam phasing of the engine with 35 degrees of control authority as controlled by the ECU. On a turbo engine of this size, it can mean up to 50-60 more lb/ft of low end torque and a reduction of more than 500 rpm in turbo spool time.
The exhaust cam is fixed by the factory timing gear. Most people don’t mess with an adjustable exhaust sprocket on these engines although we would prefer a couple of degrees later exhaust timing, we will see how the stock gear works.
We had to buy new genuine Honda cam bolts, trigger wheels, various guides, nuts bolts and spacers. These little parts add up and were a pain in the butt to track down!
We got a nice shiny and new factory valve cover!
Genuine Honda valve cover gaskets, bolt seals and cam seals were purchased as well. If you opt for factory parts, you had better know a smart parts counter guy!
Howard Watanabe first started to assemble the head by lubing up the valve spring seats and laying them in place.

Very good write up I just wondered when you switched heads do you have to use k20 head parts or can you use the k24 parts in the new head ?
Yes you can.
What ecu did you guys use go run it i have hear that k pro cannot run it

You need to modify the front cover.
What exactly must be done to the front cover?
You have to weld a piece on to cover a place that is uncovered. It is pretty apparent when you put the cover against the block
How did u mofidy the sensor plates?
I am thinking to do the same for my Accord Euro CU2 (AUS). In US is called Acura TSX 2nd gen. Do you think the K24Z3 block will mate with K20Z3 cyl. head without any modification of the water passage?
Awesome write up, I would have loved to see dyno numbers of this swap. I also have a k24z2 and I’m trying to find the best head to swap too. I really don’t want to change out all the internals. I’m not finding a lot of write ups for our engine sadly.
