Nerd’s Eye View: 2013 Performance Racing Industry Show

Turbosmart introduced their new valve travel cap and sensor for their wastegate line. The sensor is a 0-5 volt unit that allows one to datalog both valve travel and position. Their intention with the introduction of this sensor was to allow the user to plot this data set against manifold and drive pressure. This should reveal a lot about how the package comes onto boost and how any changes to the mechanical system or tune impact boost onset. Super cool and we anticipate other nerds exploiting this to its true potential!
This rear end setup was on display from Race Products, a motorsport engineering company from Australia. This super trick assembly exploits an adjustable Watts linkage and allows the builder to use many different options for drive type, axles, whel studs, and camber adjustment. The rear hubs have multiple options and include a weld-on end housing. From there one can make choices to adjust camber, toe and adapt it to just about any live axle application. They are used with huge success in the V8 supercar series as well as the New Zeland Super Tourer series.

Whitmor Wirenetics had a host of cool automotive specific items on display. I found this kevlar based wrap very interesting as it offers superior heat resistance for wrapping wiring looms and it also features an interior liner that protects against any type of EMI interferance. Custom high temp heat shrink as well as any shape of heat shrink boot you could imagine are just a few of the reasons I was geeking out at their booth. Whitmor if you read this please invite me to your warehouse so that I can go on a nerd-spree!
On display in the VAC motorsports booth were these baller sequential gearstacks for use inside of OEM cases. To be honest they were quite affordable in comparison to a fully sequential custom box and I am blatantly asking for one for the Gen 3 STi project here at MotoIQ. Sure it will never happen but hey, a nerd can dream right?
