Nerd’s Eye View: 2013 Performance Racing Industry Show

,

The back of the Swift 014 features inboard pushrod suspension goodness and you can also see how the engine lays out with the spec intake manifold with the filter orientation in the opening behind the driver's noggin.
The 2014 IndyCar shod in carbon fiber and powered by a twin turbo Honda 6 cylinder.
For 2014 Honda brings their 2.2L V6 engine back to IndyCar in hopes of taking the fight to Chevy. Last year Chevy dominated with twin turbo technology compared to Honda's single snail program. This year Honda will use the series mandated Borg Warner EFR 7163 in dual configuration. 12K rpm's and roughly 600HP around 21 PSI with the option to scramble boost to 23 PSI up to 10 times during the race. Engine weight is said to be in the 250lb range. They say “there's more than corn in Indiana” however I hope there is plenty of it as these cars run on E85.
My simple eyes lead me to believe this is the Penske 5 way damper for use in the series. My guess is that it is adjustable for HS bump and rebound, LS bump and rebound, and gas pre-load. I am always open to a more expert analysis and input so if you have something by all means please share in the comments.
Every IndyCar leaving the starting line in 2014 regardless of engine manufacturer is required to have two of the BW units affixed. Makes me want to start watching Indy. 😉
