Nerd’s Eye View: 2013 Performance Racing Industry Show

,

Continuing on with the VAC motorsports booth they had plenty of NSFW items to drool over. This S54 E46 M3 engine was far easier on the eyes than any haggard booth model! Shown here is the VAC header, VANOS elimination plate, VAC damper pulley, as well as the VAC dry sump oiling system.
Feeding the inline 6 individual throttle bodies is this VAC carbon airbox. Yes it makes more power, yes it sheds several pounds from the top of the engine but does any of that really matter? It's a carbon airbox featuring ITB's….
Why stop with the other goodies? They are using a VAC optimized lightweight steel flywheel and a Tilton 5.5″ multiplate clutch assembly. I don't own an M3 however if I were to wheel one assembly out of any booth at the show it would be this one. Granted it would do nothing in Project Gen 3 STi but man would it be a cool center piece in the living room.
This 1976 composite bodied Civic is full of win. Campaigned in the SCCA GT Lite class this sub ton racecar is custom built from the ground up to do one thing very fast.
The single cam motor still revs to over 8500 RPM's and uses ITB's and a custom header to make roughly 180HP. The Large AN line feeds a custom stainless water supply line to cool the motor. In going through this car, almost nothing is off the shelf.
