Nerd’s Eye View: 2013 Performance Racing Industry Show

Using twin GT15 turbos this 10.0:1 compression direct injection Ford mill produces 365 HP at 5,000 RPM and 420 lb ft at 2,500 RPM. DOHC with variable valve timing, coated aluminum pistons, forged rods, and a counterweighted forged crank make this a build you should not need to touch! They figured in case one of your buddies got stuck in a ditch you could use your roadster to tow them out.

In this V6 configuration each bank of 3 cylinders feeds a GT15 turbo that has its own ducted IC. You can see that for packaging purposes they had to side mount the air/air intercooler core in a side feed ducted setup. They then merge the charge pipes in a smooth transition pre throttle body.
We were pleased to see a proper manual gearbox in this car. It appears to be a 6 speed Ford unit however if someone can clarify or elaborate I am all ears. I was unable to pick up the trans specs due to shooting this car at the last minute.
In keeping with the Factory Five theme they also had one of their new 818 kits on display. This kit is offered in both a street and race version and uses a 2002-2006 Impreza or WRX donor car for all of the powertrain bits. The kit provides everything you need aside from the donor car and they are around $10,000. If you read Sarah's Christmas article than you know that an 818 was at the top of my list!
Seen here is a race version that is currently being campaigned in NASA STR-3. Most of these builds are coming in between 1,950 and 2,100 lbs wet. Add in the application specific Koni dampers and a turbocharged Boxer motor making 250 WHP and this thing will be a serious riot! The focus is on a pure driving experience at an affordable price and it is safe to say that for $16,000 one could build a seriously nice example and have a shit load of fun! If 2014 treats me right financially I want one!
