Out of the Meat Locker – Cameron Moore’s Formula Drift Scion FR-S

,

Adding more green anodized bling to the bay, Radium’s Multi Pump Regulator (MPR) served as a pressure manager, pairing extremely well with the Radium Fuel Cell Serge Tank farther back.

Finally, that E85 fuel was stored in a Fuel Safe fuel tank with custom mounting where the rear seats once were. Moore typically kept things light, as recognized by the handy Autometer fuel gauge, with only about five to ten gallons on tap at a time. The FR-S burned a little over one gallon per run, depending on the length of the track, so this was the optimal zone for avoiding starvation in competition.

Like nearly all Formula Drift builds of this generation, Moore’s team relied on Nitrous Express injection for an added boost of power at specific points in the RPM range. Rather than contributing to the raw 1,000 hp tune, the NX shot targeted times the boost, or anti-lag system couldn’t compensate for, keeping the motor at peak power on demand whenever Moore requested it.

Engine management and data logging was handled by a MoTeC C125 display. Shift lights and detailed tachometer reading was only part of the action. Notice the Nitrous pressure gauge, and importantly in the upper left Moore’s signature statement of “Out For Blood.” This level of customization was just what the driver needed to get pumped up each time the FR-S was brought to the starting line.

The C125 display was fed by a MoTeC M130 ECU, custom tuned by John Reed Racing’s experienced firmware for the 2JZ platform. A MoTeC PDM handled all other ancillary functions for the vehicle, and the wiring was run together by Unicorn Garage during the build.

Stepping back to view the rest of Moore’s office we got a glimpse of how the rest of the FR-S’s controls were laid out. The interior was fully gutted to save weight, and the dashboard replaced with a new unit that housed the MoTeC display, and accommodated the revised steering rack.
