Out of the Meat Locker – Cameron Moore’s Formula Drift Scion FR-S

,

Without an official title sponsor, Moore had the flexibility to put his own spin on the color and graphics for the FR-S. He called on the creative minds at Factory 83, one of the best in the business, and sat down alongside Ian to sketch it out. Drawing inspiration from Moore’s day job at the meat market, they gave the car a blood red scheme, dotted with splatter marks. The front and rear fenders were graced with butcher cleavers, both a nod to Moore’s favorite tool, and to the amount of tire guts his car regularly cut through. Once the design was complete, it was printed by Superwow Factory, and installed by the team at Factory 83.

At the front, each side had multiple pieces that made up the aggressive canard and over fender extensions. Rather than stop with one set of canards, this kit displayed flarings in front, and at the rear of each wheel arch.

Part of the allure of drifting is the sense that, day or night, the show goes on. To that end, competitors fit some of the coolest lamps to stay ahead of the mainstream. Moore hooked up with Spyder Auto for a set of their projector headlights with LED accents, both in white and amber.

Additionally, Formula D requires all competitors to mount a standard, front-facing brake light to the top of the windshield on the outside. It gives fans, and judges alike a clear idea of when the drivers are using the middle pedal. Moore’s example was still in super clean condition when we had the chance to inspect it mid-season.

Left foot braking is essential to getting the correct angle, both in high speed sweepers and quick transitions, as Moore demonstrated expertly. Also, notice how at FR-S’s rear, the BN Sports’ valance’s extra channel allowed tire smoke to be directed up, and past the bumper into an oncoming competitor’s windshield.
