Out of the Meat Locker – Cameron Moore’s Formula Drift Scion FR-S

,

Engine swaps, like Moore’s 2JZ, used to prove tricky when it came to finding the right transmission for a match. Not anymore. The industry has truly blossomed in this regard with a host of options, especially on the dedicated racing category. Moore worked with Race Tech Services (RTS) and selected a G-Force GSR 4-speed dogbox transmission, complete with 2JZ adaptor plate, meaning his round hole got just the right round peg. GSR transmissions are known for their ability handle insane amounts of power, and this one employed a Long shifter plate with precise linkages.

Down the line, the transmission met up with a Driveshaft Shop driveshaft, stub shafts and axles to deliver the power to its final destination.

The OEM pedal assembly on Moore’s FR-S was exchanged for an OBP upright style pedal box, with floor mounted hinge points on each pedal, set at just the right radius for the turn of Moore’s ankle pivot. The plate linked with the far left pedal was a Clutch Masters 850 series twin disc, paired together with a Clutch Masters lightweight aluminum flywheel.
Here is a closer look at the OBP pedal box.  You can see how the pedal arms are sectioned for maximum stiffness but cored out for minimal weight and pivot on bronze bushings for smoothness. The whole assembly weighs just 2.8 kg. A cool feature of the OBP pedal is that they come with adjustable stops for the throttle and clutch; surprisingly these features are often missing from some popular pedal boxes.
The OBP pedal boxed used here is there drive by wire model that supports electronic throttle control.  The pedal box comes with a linear position sensor that is ready for programming with a stand-alone ECU.  This is a pretty unique product as far as pedal boxes go.

To ensure that Moore’s heels were at the optimal position, Nameless Performance fabricated a step box just ahead of the pedal assembly.

Moore is used to banked tracks, like his home circuit of Evergreen Speedway outside of Seattle. However, Formula D features quite a few on the calendar, none more steep than Wall Stadium in New Jersey. That pedal plate came in especially handy when fighting not only sideways G forces, but also gravity to maintain focus behind the wheel.

For 2017 Moore ran a set of Cosmis Racing XT-206R wheels wrapped in Nexen N FERA SUR4 high performance summer tires. The wheels were chosen at 18×9” front with 235/40R18 rubber. Just behind, the stock brakes were replaced with a set of four-piston Wilwood calipers and rotors, paired against Winmax brake pads.
