Borg Warner has introduced a new SXR compressor wheel technology featuring revised and updated aerodynamics. This allows them to use smaller compressor wheels than the SXE predecessor but have higher efficiency with a smaller wheel. This smaller wheel has less rotating mass which allows it to spool faster. It features a 360-degree journal-type thrust bearing which, while not as fancy as a ball bearing, still offers impressive performance to value characteristics.
Only four part numbers across this SXR line cover applications from 400 to 1100hp in single turbo applications.

Borg Warner also added to their EFR lineup with this new “baby” 5951. While being physically smaller than the 6258 and therefore having less inertia, and thus a faster spool, this 5951 has 95% of the flow capacity of the 6258. So, in exchange for giving up a little bit of flow, you get 35% less inertia and a smaller installation package. That’s not a bad tradeoff, depending on your power goals!

OK, some of you might not consider the Ford Bronco racing/motorsports focused, but it’s nice to see some love for all forms of motorsport here at PRI. Flowmaster has released a new brushed 304 stainless exhaust system that is TIG-welded by hand right here in the USA. That’s worth saying something in this day and age.

Another year and, unsurprisingly, more applications from Fluidampr. This time, we have these LS8 and LT1 applications, which hadn’t even been announced when I snapped this photo. Fluidampr also said that these flywheels are available with a pinning kit for when you make so much horsepower that the OEM press fit can’t do the job.

Sim Racing gets bigger and bigger every year, and PRI has increased the size of the sim racing area in response. That being said, most of the things on display this year were pretty much the same as last year. There were a few new manufacturers but nothing really stood out all that much. One thing of note was probably the Simagic P2000 pedal system, which features an interesting hydraulic brake contraption. Unfortunately it seems that I neglected to get a photo.
More and more manufacturers are getting into the hydraulic-ish pedal system game. We’ll see which ones stand the test and which ones fall apart in a sloppy, leaky mess.

I am aroused by the new baby EFR. It will be the PERFECT miata turbo.
I’m annoyed that a compressor muffler is a thing that exists
On behalf of myself and random lurkers who don’t comment, thank you for the great coverage and writing.
I’ve never been to SEMA nor PRI. I just turned 44. I’m missing out. Articles like these do the job filllng in though.
