PRI 2016: Part 2

,

…with a 96mm back end, good for 1350 hp.

Here’s a cutaway of one of Borg Warner’s S500SX-E, featuring a 94mm inducer (it also comes in 88mm), with a 99mm turbine wheel exducer, good for 1875 hp!

Borg Warner is on the cutting edge of technology with this little guy. If you think it looks strange you’re right, because it’s got no real back end. Instead, it’s an electronically driven compressor, known as the “ebooster”, to further reduce turbo lag. If making power and being fuel-efficient means you can have your cake and eat it too, having an ebooster on top of that means this cake just got a whole lot tastier.

Browsing through BW’s extensive and high quality catalog, it was great to see some familiar cars in the Borg Warner-boosted stable. Up top is Jeff Gerner, of Four Ring Performance, and his 1100-plus wheel horsepower 1994 Audi S4 (S400SX 82mm). Jeff happens to be the engine builder of our Project Supra here in Kansas City. And it was even cooler to see MotoIQ’s Project 240SX Land Speed Racer (EFR 8374), which is driven by our very own Chuck Johnson.
