Project Do It All S13, Chassis Fabrication part 3 With ZSM Customs

The down legs of the cage and the floor plates were welded in place.  This ties into where the rear suspension cross-member bolts in and also makes the cage legal for NASA and SCCA which does not allow the previous leg location.

A rear tube gusset plate and the mounting tabs for the fuel cell mounting plate were designed in CAD and laser cut.  This is faster and results in a cleaner final product than traditional fabrication methods.  The stock spare tire well was cut out for the Radium 15 gallon fuel cell.

The mounting plate was tack welded to the rear floor of the hatch area and the Radium mounting frame tack welded to that.

You can see the floor and frame tack welds here.

Once the fit was confirmed, the entire fuel cell support assembly was seam-welded into place.  This is stronger than the OEM spare tire area and also lighter. It gives a safer more centralized and better-protected place for the fuel cell vs the stock tank which was pretty unprotected from a collision.
