Project E46 M3: Part 10 – Exterior upgrades for a cleaner look

,

However, here at MotoIQ we wanted to make sure this thing wouldn’t be ungluing itself at high speed.  So we found a few easy drilling points to fasten the spoiler securely.

Ok, you got us.  The picture above is not of Project E46 M3 but rather of an HPF Turbo E46 M3 we’ll be featuring soon.  I just didn’t have the time to reshoot the underside picture before this article was due (a dropped laptop shattered the platter in my hard drive with all of my pictures, you see).  Nevertheless, our lip was installed pretty much in the exact same way.

If you look at the underside of the splitter, you'll notice it's not wrapped in carbon, but rather a hard, matte finish plastic.  This is nice for cars that are lowered and have trouble clearing driveways and stuff.  Otherwise you'd be cracking the carbon's clear coat (hence the term, “wet” carbon), and be in tears.

Here’s another look at the Bav Auto splitter.  It’s really a nice piece, and for the money it does add a lot of visual bang for your buck–if you’re into splitters, that is.  Personally, I’m a big fan of splitters and diffusers.

To finish up the front end, we ordered paint-matched side markers to replace the amber reflective units from IND in Chicago.

IND is a BMW powerhouse, dedicated to working on some of the quickest BMWs in the country.   They are the master importer of Eisenmann exhausts, and they sell a variety of big-ticket items, including ESS Tuning and even the rarely seen GruppeM products.  They’ve also got lots of super clean customer project cars on their site you can check out.

For the back end, this GTR-style diffuser from Khoalty does the trick.  It’s not as crazy as the one we put on our Project Supra, but it compliments the rest of the BMW very nicely.

Khoalty features a plethora of splitters, diffusers and other carbon fiber products to choose from for the E46 M3, as well as other M cars.

Here’s a close-up of the carbon fiber weave of our GTR-style diffuser from Khoalty.
