The Garrett EVO X upgrade turbo is based on the GTX3071 CHRA. It uses a 58 trim compressor wheel with a 71mm exducer diameter and a 54.1mm inducer. The turbine is an 84 trim with a 60mm wheel in a .73 A/R exhaust housing. The center section uses Garrett’s free floating oil damped ball bearing center section for quick spooling and fast transient response. |
The turbo has a custom exhaust housing that bolts straight to the stock EVO X exhaust manifold with a divorced large flap internal wastegate. Divorcing the wastegate flow path from the turbine boosts turbine efficiency. |
A really cool feature is the ported shroud compressor housing. A ported shroud really reduces compressor surge, a good thing because the stock turbo is quite surge prone when using aggressive boost maps. |
The Garrett kit is very complete with water and oil lines included for an easy bolt in installation. The turbo has a twin scroll exhaust housing like the stock turbo. A twin scroll exhaust housing greatly improves turbine efficiency, thereby speeding spool. |
You can see that the Garrett turbo has an identical footprint to the stock turbo on the left. You can also see how the Garrett exhaust housing has a much bigger passage for better flow. |
