Project Focus ST – Working on the basics with Eibach, Falken Tires, Rotiform and KW Suspension

,

The wider Falken FK453 tires and Rotiform wheels look pretty darned good filling the wheelwell and they don't rub.

We turned to Eibach for antisway bars for the Focus ST.  Eibach antisway bars are precision bent from high tensile strength steel and are post bent heat treated and shotpeened for a long service life.  They are polyester powdercoated for corrosion protection.  They also feature hard and long lasting polyurethane bushings for quick response compared to the stock rubber parts.  The Eibach Focus bars have centering washers welded in place to keep the bar from shifting in use.

The Eibach bars have forged one piece ends.  Most other bar manufacturers weld their ends on but a one piece forging is much stronger.

Currently Eibach is one of the few companies that manufacture swaybars for the Focus and the only company we could find that offered adjustable sway bars for the car.  We really feel that adjustable bars are a big part in helping tune the chassis to driver and track preference.  The rear bar is two way adjustable.  The adjustment makes about a 20% difference in overall bar stiffness and you can feel this pretty easily while driving.

No one makes a better coilover that stands up to the rigors of all weather daily driving than KW.  KW's Variant III coilovers are optimized for a lower ride height and are independently adjustable for compression and rebound damping.  KW's have all stainless steel bodies and anti seizure and totally corrosion proof stainless reinforced plastic spring collars.  Most other coilovers will rust solid without maintenance.  KW's are good to go in salty winter driving.  You may have noticed that we use a lot of KW on our project cars.  It is because no other suspension company has such a wide range of fitments, damping adjustment flexibility, such good durability and performance for the price point.  The Variant III also has a limited lifetime warranty which seals the deal for us.

On the Focus the rear springs are independent of the shocks.  This is good because it keeps spring kinking force from binding the dampers.  This helps improve the ride greatly without sacrificing anything.  The problem is that the independent spring is harder to make a ride height adjustable suspension for.  KW includes this adjustable ride height spring seat for the Focus that comes with the kit.
