Project V8 RX-7: Part 17 – Eimer Engineering Arms, Wheel Spacers and the Hunt for Perfect Stance

,

If something didn’t fit, it would be easy to blow it all apart and reposition stuff.

The partially fabricated control arms give us an idea of the general shape. This enables Chris to check if there is any interference or problems with his design, since he’s making the arms back at his shop and doesn’t have access to the entire car. Here, we are verifying the fit of everything on Project RX-7.

After doing the dummy assembly, we tried everything with a wheel and tire. Wow, that looks awesome! Plenty of adjustability for alignment, room in the wheel well for lock to lock turning (just barely) and a near stock scrub radius!

With the dummy parts fit verified on the car, Chris returned to his shop, loaded the partially welded parts into his jig with the rest of the laser cut parts, and completely tig welded them up.

These are the completed lower arms.  We left the raw finish because it looks cool and had them clear powder coated for rust resistance. Being hollow, the arms are very light as well as strong.
