Project V8 RX-7: Wheel, Brake and Tire 3 PART MEGAPOST! Part 3 – The Wheels and Tires Meet the Brakes and Body Kit

,

Tire Mounting
We loaded our new wheels and tires up in the back of Project Golf TDI wondercar and hauled them over to America’s Tire in Palos Verdes to get them mounted.
We take all our nice wheels to Eddie Jimenez and his crew over there because we know they aren’t gonna scratch up our rims before we even get them on the car!
No offense to our tire mounting professionals out there reading this but a lot of y’all are monkeys and either don’t care about your work or were never properly trained to begin with!
But Eddie’s guys are and they’ve never damaged our expensive wheels.  The lower the profile of the tire the harder it is to stretch over the lip of the rim to mount so big ass pry bars are used and that’s how things get damaged.
Eddie on the left and his associate wrestle one of the 335 R888’s rear tires onto our 13 inch wide wheel.
The tire mounting machine rotates the wheel and tire while a stationary arm helps guide the tire over the lip of the wheel.  As more and more of the tire is stretched over the lip the tire gets harder and harder to stretch.  This is where the pry bars need to come out and things can get tricky.  Wheels get scratched if the tools slip or aren’t being used properly.
If you’re in the Los Angeles area and don’t already have a trusted guy to mount your tires, go see Eddie and tell him MotoIQ sent you!
