Such a beautiful track, I wish I could have done some road racing on this!

That night we had some practice on the smooth, perfect and grippy track.  Then the drivers and crews had to pose for some PR shots for the local media.  The drivers also had to do interviews for local TV and radio.  The track’s PR people were very professional and had all sorts of things for the drivers lined up.

Here is the contingent from the USA.  We had a few local drivers that also were able to compete.  First the drivers had to pose for PR pics.

After our night practice and PR duties, we decided to do some sightseeing in Abu Dhabi the next morning.  This is one of the largest Mosques in the world.  It is a magnificent structure.  However, we came at worship time and could not go inside.  Whoops.  Look at all the polished marble, on the OUTSIDE of the building.

This is the Presidential palace.  Our overzealous cab driver decided not to stop at a check point and almost got us shot.  We were kicked the hell out of there.

Some of Abu Dhabi’s ultra modern architecture.  The skyline was magnificent!

After being around all of this super baller stuff, we decided to see what locals did so we found a supermarket which was like a Super Kmart.  However not too many Arabs were there, it was mostly foreign guest workers.  Armies of Pakistanis, Filipinos, Indians and Indonesians are guest workers who work on 18 month visas.  Workers greatly outnumber citizens.  Citizens are mostly to be found in the baller areas it seems.  The store was interesting, they had a deli with probably like 50 types of fresh olives.  They take their olives seriously.  We also got in a lot of trouble taking pictures in this store.  Apparently they don’t like that much.

Formula D banners and billboards were everywhere.  The marketing was pretty good.

Funny shirts we found in the supermarket.

Costa decided to buy some local garb.  I got in trouble for taking pictures of him trying it on.  Costa looked pretty tough.

Costa and I were trying to decide which sandals were the best for doing freeway sliding.
