ALMS: Circuit of the Americas 2013

,

The good news kept coming in for the weekend. Before the race, the USCC announced that Tudor watches, a Rolex brand, will sponsor the USCC for the next 5 years. A great start for a new series. The second piece of information was that Porsche would have a 2 car factory team in LMGT, and that team is CORE Autosports. Will we get to see a Bergmeister/Long reunion for 2014? Let’s hope so! And finally, the USCC launched their schedule with 12 races next year. Rumors were also putting Dyson and Paul Miller Racing in GT3 Bentleys next year.

Rooster tail…

Followed by more rooster tail…
And even more rooster tail!

Meanwhile, the ALMS race was off to a tough start as a result of the massive pileup during the first quarter mile of the Baltimore Grand Prix. Tubs ruined, suspensions broken, and two plus weeks for several teams to put together a car and travel over 1,500 miles to the Circuit of the Americas.  And after this race to repair and rebuild, teams were greeted with chaos in the form of 3 inches of rain during practice and qualifying.

The GTC guys had it the worst, having to qualify as soon as the clouds broke.
Everyone was trying different lines in hopes of a quicker lap time.
The Risi team only ran a few laps resulting in a penalty that put them at the back of the grid.
