ALMS: Circuit of the Americas 2013

,

The #66 The Racer's Group Porsche took qualifying and the race win in GTC. The Racer's Group's first for this year.

The rain was coming down in buckets at the planned start for the ALMS qualifying on Friday, delaying it for a good hour as everyone sought cover. As the deluge broke, the GTC Porsches were sent to get their qualifying runs in. The die-hard spectators that remained were treated to a visual aerodynamics show as the mist showed off the airstreams from vents, outlets and wings, followed by the kinds of monster rooster tails normally reserved for racing boats.

By the time the prototypes started qualifying, the track had improved a bit.
But not enough as most qualifiers struggled with the sharp turn 12 at the end of the back straight.
Even the Delta Wing had some opposite lock into turn 12.
The Patron Hondas were penalized and sent to the back of the grid for not putting in enough time during qualifying.
