Building the FR-S FA20 with Stay Crushing: Installing the Engine and Making Big Power!

,

The Raceseng idler pulley has a nickel plated steel body for long life to replace the stock plastic part.  It has a heavy-duty, long life NSK bearing as well.  A supercharged engine puts a lot more stress on the belt system, as it requires more power than any of the stock front end accessories. The heavy duty idler will help.

The Raceseng caster camber plate is independently adjustable for both camber and caster. This is a really cool product that is much-needed in this car.

The camber has a 5.5-degree adjustment range. The caster adjustment can add a degree of positive caster up from the stock 6 degrees. The plate has minimal stack height, so it will not affect travel. This is done by putting the bearing up into the plates body into the open area of the strut tower.

The plate has rust resistant stainless steel hardware and quality, American made stainless bearings. We feel that this is a great product that the car really needs. We have run into stack height issues with our own Project FR-S, and this plate can cure them.

The extra breathing that our V-2 supercharger is getting can use some improved flow on the exhaust side. We selected a DC Sports Race Header to get rid the increased exhaust gas volume that the higher boost pressure from the bigger supercharger will give us.

The DC Sports header is made of polished 304 stainless steel which is highly corrosion resistant. The header is also a 4-1 design that should give us a boost in top end power over the tri-y 4-2-1 layout of the stock exhaust manifold and traditional headers.

The 4-1 layout gets rid of the typical flat 4 blatt. With a 4-1, our engine will sound like a normal 4-cylinder, which we like, but fans of the the boxer engine will hate. We have always thought that the flat 4 engines sound like something is wrong with them!

We used DC’s racing mid pipe to maximize flow.

Like the header, the mid pipe is also fabricated of polished tig welded 304 stainless. The racing mid pipe eliminates the cat and is not street legal.

Howard installed the engine from the bottom. Here he installs the DC header.
