Extreme Engine Tech: Building the Ultimate K24 Part 2 The Bottom End!

,

Howard deburrs the end of the gear where the shaft used to be.  Howard also plugged the oil passages feeding the balance shafts’ journals.

Now Howard hangs the rods.  He first lubes up the pin bosses, the rod small end bushing and the piston pin.

The piston pin is then pushed into place.

The round wire locking rings are then installed.  The round wire works real well because the chamfer on the piston pin actually pushes it tighter into the groove if side loads are encountered.
You have to make sure that the locking rings are seated well.  Now all 4 rods are hung.

The oil ring separator is installed into the oil ring groove.

  1. Cool to see you guys using the newer k24 blocks, wished you used the head too because I wanted to see what works. I’m building a k24z3 and saw that you cut off the balance shafts, by retaining the stock oil pump system means I can still use the bottom location oil filter correct?
