Formula D Behind the Scenes: Round Six Las Vegas
By Justin Banner
Being able to come in on the Thursday of a Formula Drift weekend kind of gives you the ability to see things just before the track is actually set up. There is a lighter side that does come out just before these guys get serious and start trying to eliminate each other. Thursday is mostly a setup day, from setting up the exhibits for the vendors to the teams getting rigs, parts, and tools in order for the weekend.

Also, coming in a day early lets me go around the track and do some stuff that I wouldn’t be able to during the busy weekend. Like take a look inside the Shelby Museum. |
It’s also where stock Ford Mustangs transform into GT350s and GTSs. The GT500 Mustang gets turned into the Super Snake, a supercar for the masses if there ever was one. |
I could not get a factory tour, as you had to be there at 10:30am to take one, but I did tour the museum, which had various Shelby vehicles on display from the original GT40… |
Wild looking built motors… |
To the various Mustangs and AC Cobras that Carrol Shelby built in his career. They even had the Chrysler cars that he had a hand in like the Dodge Omni GLH, Shelby Daytona, and even his own ground-up creation… |
The Shelby Series 1! A car I only got to see in pictures originally, I finally got to see in real life! |
A stunning car in real life that really did capture the Cobra in a more modern package of its time. |
Maybe one day, I will get to drive one, even if it is only the Kit Car version. |
Yes, I do love the looks of this car! |
