Formula Drift 2013 Round 4: Wall Speedway

Denofa vs Powers

Chelsea Denofa in the BC Racing BMW 3-Series Sedan would take out Matt Powers in the Fatlace/Nitto Tires Nissan 240SX. Matt really did not look up to his normal self in his follow run and his lead run was too little too late.

Forsberg on the bye-run

As mentioned earlier, Carl Rydquist would crash his car in Top 32 Practice and had to take a Competition Timeout, but it wouldn’t be enough time. Chris Forsberg in the NOS Energy Drink 370Z would get the Bye-Run.

Essa vs Ward

Mike Essa in the GSR BMW M3 would get the win against the Chris Ward Racing Nissan 240SX of Chris Ward. However, Ward really looked like his time behind the wheel is starting to pay off as his runs were solid.

Jeff Jones vs Tyler McQuarrie

The controversial run of the day was between the GoPro Camaro of Tyler McQuarrie and the CX Racing Nissan 240SX of Jeff Jones. Neither driver looked stellar and they could have gone One More Time, but the Judges found two hits against Jones. The first was very obvious; Jones hit the first front clipping point in front of the flag stand. The second has been very vague; in the Livestream it was stated that Jeff went off course by taking his rear tire onto the lower bank somewhere on the course.

Then, we hear after the event that Jones was really going too slowly. As of right now, I don’t know 100 percent what the second hit against Jones was as replays show that Jones didn’t go off course as defined by the judges and he really didn’t appear that slow. We’ll have to wait and see if this run wins the Vote for Review on Wrecked Magazine and allow the judges to fully explain. Either way, McQuarrie moves on to the Top 16.

Mohan vs Landerville

Kyle Mohan in the EnergyX/Mazdatrix/Nexen Tire Mazda RX-8 would look to put 2012 DMCC Champion and Formula Drift Rookie, Marc Landreville in his place with the Lacroix Tuning/Budweiser Nissan 240SX. Kyle, however, would not be able to do that as his car broke on his chase run and straightened out. Landreville in his first round of Formula Drift would make Top 16!

Kearney vs Tuerck

Darren McNamara in the Falken Tires Nissan Silvia would take the win against Pat Goodin in the Enjuku Racing Nissan 240SX. Next up was ProDrift Champion Dean Kearney in the Oracle Lighting/Achilles Radial Dodge Viper who would fall victim to Retaks/Maxxis Tire Driver Ryan Tuerck. Dean looked excellent this weekend in the notorious Viper, but Tuerck was able to outperform him and move on.
