PRI 2015: Part 5

In the Import and European car world you don't hear of Manley for pistons as much as you hear about its high quality connecting rods. However, they do make pistons for the likes of Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Subaru. They also carry them for select VW, Audi, and Lamborghinis as well. Here are some forged pistons from its Ultra-Lite Formula-Won Series, the one on the left intended for the Nissan GTR. The valve reliefs look nearly identical for both the intake and exhaust but have no fear—Manley idiot-proofed them with a “front” label so they can’t be installed backwards.

Atomic is an MSD brand, and this is the Atomic Stage 1 direct port fuel injection system tuner, which offers full tuning, including: self-learning fueling, sequential fuel control, and drive-by-wire control. It also comes with a hand held programmer. Its OEM-quality wire harness is also plug-and-play for the GM LS engines, whether boosted or naturally aspirated. At only a grand, it offers a lot of bang for the buck.

Check out Atomic’s Air Force LT1 intake manifold for the LS V8. The manifold is reported to be lightweight and also resistant to heat build up, thanks to its polymer molded construction. The throttle body measures 103mm (more on that below), and the two-piece design offers the ability to modify the runners to different lengths in order to get your desired torque curve. Atomic claims 10-plus whp gains over the OEM manifold.

Here’s the Atomic LS 103mm throttle body. If you look closely, you can see the parabolic contoured machine work around the inside of the inlet, which reportedly allows the throttle body to flow like a 105mm throttle body!

Let’s take a look at some ZF motorsport clutches on the next page…
