We are probably going to make a plate to close up this hole which really weakens this critical area of the chassis.
The front of the cage was tied in with this dimple die gusset. We are also going to tie the roof into the cage as well with gussets.
The main hoop of the cage was tied into the B pillars using these long dimple die plates.
Zach made these gussets to tie the frame rails into the unibody better. From the factory, the top of the framerails just float in the chassis and are not even welded in place! The gussets tie it all together here.

Looks like a good starting point – I looked through a couple of the earlier articles on this project and couldn’t find the info, what’s the history of the chassis?

It was a friends track car that was sitting for 10 years.
Cool that you’re bringing it back to life again! Hopefully there aren’t more surprises like the gas tank lurking.
