Project SC300 Road Racer: Part 15 – Lay it all out

,

We hacked off the Toyota connector for the steering column motor and guessed at the polarity.

Here’s the finished product. We luckily ended up getting the polarity correct!

What do we mean by the “correct polarity”? We mean that when everything was powered up, pushing “up” on the dashboard control made the steering column go “up”, and all of the other directions worked as expected. We could have simply swapped the pins on the motor-side connector if we had it backwards.

Here’s the Toyota starter solenoid connector.

It’s always nice to use the correct connector when it’s available.

Tom digs underneath the car to get the starter solenoid connected.

Here’s the other side of the transmission-tunnel harness (under car). It has a DT connector that we wired which will connect to the Bosch LSU 4.2 wideband sensor, as well as a DTM which will connect to the reverse switch on the transmission (to engage the reverse lights).

The other side of the reverse switch will just be a short length of wire that will complete the circuit to ground when the transmission is put into reverse.

With the under car wiring mostly done, it was time to go back into the cabin to tackle the steering wheel wiring. Our fancy steering wheel switch setup would require a little bit of fabrication and a little bit of wiring and a little bit of planning.
