Street Friendly (And California Legal) GD Subaru STI Build! Part Two Streetable Suspension

Now the front struts could be removed.

We will be replacing the worn-out stock shocks with  KW V3 coil overs. The KW V3 Coilovers have a corrosion-resistant stainless steel body and rustproof engineering plastic-clad stainless spring seats and collars. These are coil-overs are truly 4-season worthy, even in areas with road salt. You won’t need to worry about the spring collars seizing to the shock bodies. The V3s have a lifetime corrosion guarantee.

The KW V3’s have a shorter body so the car can be lowered without reducing the wheel travel.  The V3’s are designed to use the stock upper spring seat to keep the smooth and quiet rubber isolated ride that the stock upper seat provides.  The V3’s have a slotted strut mounting bolt hole so the camber can be adjusted at the knuckle, this is a very useful feature.

Perhaps the best feature of the KW V3 is the independently adjustable compression and rebound damping.  This allows you to really dial in the shocks ride response to go with any tire or swaybar combination.  This is a big advantage that no other shocks at this price point can offer.

The stock upper mount has to be reused.  Jason uses a spring compressor to take tension off the upper mount so he can remove it safely.

  1. Why not go with the Whiteline Front Roll Center/Bump Steer – Correction Kit too since you are already there?

    1. One of the things is the kit reduces negative camber so, with limited camber adjustment, we chose not to run it. It is a good choice of parts to run in such an application through.
