Street Friendly (And California Legal) GD Subaru STI Build! Part Two Streetable Suspension

Another advantage of Whitelines anti-lift kit is that it gives another degree of positive caster.  Additional caster gives better straight-line stability and reduces understeer as it gives more negative camber to the outer tire as the wheel is turned. This plants the tread flatter and gives more grip under cornering load.  There are two models of the Whiteline anti-lift kit, a race version with a super hard bushing and a street version with soft bushings. For this car, we are using the street version. Unlike most high-performance mods, the Whiteline anti-lift kit doesn’t have any negative trade-of

The anti-lift kit works by lowering the rear lower control arm pivot point down and outward.  To make room for lowering the pivot, the front subframe has to be lowered using the included spacers.  The first step is to remove the bolts holding the subframe and adding the spacers between the subframe and the chassis to relocate it lower.

Here you can see the spacers in place.

Now the anti-lift kit can be installed since there is room for it over the subframe.

Finally, we installed Whitelines stiffer antisway bars.  The antisway bars are adjustable so you can tune your car’s oversteer/understeer balance.  The front sway bar is 24mm in diameter up from the stock 20mm bar.  This is about 107% stiffer than the stock bar.  The Whiteline swaybar is also 2 way adjustable for stiffness.

The Whiteline rear bar is also 24mm in diameter up from the stock 19mm bar.  This is about 155% stiffer than the stock bar.   It is also adjustable in three positions.  This is useful for dialing in the car’s balance for your tires and personal preference.  The proportional greater increase in rear sway bar stiffness compared to the front will reduce the stock car’s tendency to understeer.  The increase in stiffness overall will reduce body roll in cornering greatly.

  1. Why not go with the Whiteline Front Roll Center/Bump Steer – Correction Kit too since you are already there?

    1. One of the things is the kit reduces negative camber so, with limited camber adjustment, we chose not to run it. It is a good choice of parts to run in such an application through.
