Team America World Time Attack – ARK Design’s BNR32 Skyline GT-R Part 3

,

Kyong uses a turret press to cut out a tube hole in the gusset.
A small belt sander helps fit the tube hole by making fine adjustments.  For TIG welding you have to have gaps less than 0.020″.
Gary shows Kyong how to make compound bends using the bending brake.
Finally Kyong uses a small mallet to do the final fitting of the gusset to the tubes.
In the rear of the car, Gary has coupled the rear crossmemeber mounts to the cage structure directly.  We will probably cut out the entire rear section of the unibody and make a tubular structure to mount the fuel cell, rear diffuser, and battery.  This will probably take an additional 50 lbs out of the car.
