Project GD STI, Getting Ready For the Engine Swap

Our 1000cc injectors that we were previously running were totally maxed out when we switched to E85.  Since we are going to have more flow and more boost with our new engine, we are switching to 1300cc Injector Dynamics injectors with Cobb adaptor pigtails for our wire harness.

Since our fuel pump was also maxed out, we have to upgrade that end of things.  We are replacing the plastic stock fuel pump hanger with this super trick part from Radium Engineering.  We did a video with the details of this part and our fuel system mods.

The Radium hanger has super sanitary through terminals which are going to make upgrading to thick gauge wire easy.  The stock Subaru wiring is not adequate for a really high flow pump so we are going to upgrade it, go straight to the battery and use the stock wiring with a relay to trigger the pump.  The Radium hanger is a direct drop-in replacement for the stock parts and makes this stuff easy.

The stock system uses a siphon jet to draw fuel from the other side of the saddle tank.  The stock part doesn’t flow too well and starvation often results from this.  The Radium jet pump flows way more than the stock part.

We did an article of the parts details here!

  1. Love all the updates, and that its all finally coming together!

One word of caution is any pitch stop mount, from the aftermarket, seems to just perfectly resonate the factory firewall.

If you have the chance getting a good CLD layer in and as high up as possible on the firewall surrounding that immediate area in-cabin, opposite the mount will make a dramatic difference in reducing NVH. If only 50% of the firewall were covered, that is enough. e.g. 4-5sqft total. Minimal weight added, but very targeted to that part. SecondSkin, Resonix, Dynamat Extreme are all good examples of quality CLD tiles that can handle heat and not put off a strong smell.

  2. Can’t wait to see this all come together. Best wishes for reliability and longevity. HP per dollar spent be damned lol

  3. Any picks of install of the COBB’s Overflow Tank and Washer Reservoir filler? I am interested in that kit and install.
