Project V8 RX-7: More Oiling Insurance from Improved Racing, Accusump and Earl’s (Part 2 of 2)

,

We almost added more red arrows to this pic so you could find the brackets easier.
We expertly bent a rectangular piece of aluminum into a slightly acute “L” shape and drilled four holes in it—two in the bottom for the brackets we just made and another two behind the Accusump to attach it to the rear subframe.
We might have to clearance the one corner that’s closest to the exhaust as it only clears by about a centimeter.  We’ll worry about that when the time comes though.

Fill’er Up!

We’re finally ready to add some oil to the system and see if we have any leaks!

We did a little calculation to figure out how much oil to add to our system.  The LS3 with the LS1 oil pan we have on it and filter holds 5.5 to 6 quarts of oil by itself.  The 3 quart Accusump holds 2.5 quarts, 21 feet of -10 AN hose we calculated to hold 1.1 quarts so the only thing left to figure out was how much oil the oil cooler held and we should have a good approximation of how much oil to add to our engine.
We used a graduated measuring cup to measure how much oil was needed to fill the Earl’s oil cooler.  When all was said and done we calculated 10 quarts as the new capacity of our oil system.
