Project V8 RX-7: More Oiling Insurance from Improved Racing, Accusump and Earl’s (Part 2 of 2)

…and dumped in Project V8 RX-7’s favorite fluid.  Motul’s application guide recommends their 6100 Synergie 15W50 for the LS3.
Priming the Accusump and getting the 5 extra quarts of oil out of the oil pan is simple, but bleeding all the air out of the system will require several cycles of the system.  The Accusump unit is shipped with about 40 psi of air pre-charge in it.  The first step is to use the Schrader valve to bleed that down to 7-10psi.
Then it’s just a matter of starting the engine and letting the engine’s oil pressure fill the Accusump.  As this is happening you can watch the pressure gauge on the Accusump climb.

Next we shut off the engine but left the key in the ON position so that the Accusump discharged completely to expel as much air as possible that might be trapped inside the Accusump.

We checked the oil after each cycle.. After about 10 cycles it settled to a safe level and we were comfortable we got most of the air out of the system.

We don’t see any leaks yet here on the shop floor but the real test will be when we get her all hot and bothered out on the road!  Now our engine is protected from the potentially adverse effects of lateral G’s and we are a big step closer to getting our RX-7 on the track!
