Rotary Radness, Mazdatrix’s 13B REW/MSP Hybrid!

,

Installing the center housing is a two man operation and is one of the trickiest bit in the assembly of a Rotary engine.  Here Dave Lemon gives Kyle a hand and pushes up the e-shaft to give Kyle some wiggle room to get the housing in place.
A lift and some wiggling and Kyle puts it home.
Then the second rotor housing is put in place.
And the second rotor.
Ready for apex seals!
Rotaries are prone to damage from detonation.  The heat and hammering forces can deform the rotor, this can cause the seal grooves to get pinched trapping the seals which causes them to get broken as the rotor spins in its eccentric course.  This causes a loss of compression and damage to the housings.  Here is an example of a damaged rotor.
