The Car Lovers Guide To Japan, Nismo Omori Factory

The F Sport engines come in two flavors, a 2.7 liter that makes 470 hp that goes for a cool $58,000 and a 2.8 liter that goes for $71,500 and puts out 500 hp. This is past Porsche spec in cost and even though this is a genuine factory part, at this point you could build a better engine for that price point.

The 2.8 liter F Sport engine is the same motor found in the super limited edition Z Tune R34.  If I was a super baller it would be pretty cool to build a replica of one of those! More on that later.

There are also some race spec RB26’s on display. Here is a GT500 engine from an R34 JGTC car.

Here is the dry sump from the engine.  Note the lack of a harmonic balancer on an inline 6.  That is unusual to me as these engines have a lot of torsional crank whip.

The engines turbos use small water to air intercoolers probably to help improve the cars aerodynamics by eliminating their ducting.

  1. Nissan outside of Japan is only interested in selling you their disposable piles of junk rather than assist you to freshen up the Nissan that you currently own.

  2. I have been a couple times, but always enjoy seeing these cars. R31s probably haven’t been at the top of many people’s lists, but that GTS-R is very cool. I have a little die-cast of that R91CP and was actually in Japan when they were racing – really wish I had gotten a chance to see them. Appreciate the coverage!

  3. Man the RB26DETT looks decidedly old school by today’s standards. What’s the included valve angle on those? Looks extremely wide given the angle of the cam covers.

And the VR38 looks awfully tall!

  4. Thank you for sharing your time at Nismo. As a devoted subscriber to SCC, I’ve always enjoyed your photography and narration.
