The Car Lovers Guide To Japan, Nismo Omori Factory

A tiny super low inertia three disc clutch is  to couple the engine to the trans.

The Omori Factory has has a small showroom/museum where some notable Nissan racers are circulated on display.

This is an R31 GTS-R Group A race car.  It raced in the European touring car series in 1988.  It was built by Nissan Motorsports Europe.  Its powered by a single turbo RB20 and put out about 400 hp.

The interior is super materialistic and the cage hardly seems antiquate by today’s standards.  This car is like a modded street car really, this was the good old days of racing!

I believe this is an R91CP Group C car.  Nissan had a whole bunch of R9_  Group C cars in the early 90’s and it is hard to keep track of all the variants of Nissan’s golden era of racing.  This car was pretty successful winning the JSP championship for 3 years in a row.  It is powered by a 3.5 liter twin turbo V8, the VRH35Z which put out about 800 hp.

  1. Nissan outside of Japan is only interested in selling you their disposable piles of junk rather than assist you to freshen up the Nissan that you currently own.

  2. I have been a couple times, but always enjoy seeing these cars. R31s probably haven’t been at the top of many people’s lists, but that GTS-R is very cool. I have a little die-cast of that R91CP and was actually in Japan when they were racing – really wish I had gotten a chance to see them. Appreciate the coverage!

  3. Man the RB26DETT looks decidedly old school by today’s standards. What’s the included valve angle on those? Looks extremely wide given the angle of the cam covers.

And the VR38 looks awfully tall!

  4. Thank you for sharing your time at Nismo. As a devoted subscriber to SCC, I’ve always enjoyed your photography and narration.
