The Car Lovers Guide To Japan, Nismo Omori Factory

Here is a GT3 R35 GTR. These were built by Nismo for GT3 racing and you could actually buy one. They were converted to 2WD and were powered by a 540 hp VR38DETT.  The GT3 spec engines were not really that crazy, about what the Nismo production cars are like or the Nismo S1 engines.

Here is a scale windtunnel model used for developing the aero for the current spec GT500 Super GT car.

Here is the actual GT500 car in the flesh. We will have a story on the cars aero bit in a future story.

Here is a Beautiful Nismo Z Tune R34 GT-R.  At the end of the R34’s production run 20 slightly used R34’s were purchased to be rebuilt as Z Tunes.  They are extensively modded from top to bottom and were the epitome of GT-R development. The Omori factory can still build you one of these if you had the money!

Here is a VR83DETT GT3 engine. It is basically the stock engine built with close tolerances with different cams and slightly larger turbos.  This is the engine that comes in the Nismo Spec production R35 GT-R as well and is basically the S1 crate engine.

  1. Nissan outside of Japan is only interested in selling you their disposable piles of junk rather than assist you to freshen up the Nissan that you currently own.

  2. I have been a couple times, but always enjoy seeing these cars. R31s probably haven’t been at the top of many people’s lists, but that GTS-R is very cool. I have a little die-cast of that R91CP and was actually in Japan when they were racing – really wish I had gotten a chance to see them. Appreciate the coverage!

  3. Man the RB26DETT looks decidedly old school by today’s standards. What’s the included valve angle on those? Looks extremely wide given the angle of the cam covers.

And the VR38 looks awfully tall!

  4. Thank you for sharing your time at Nismo. As a devoted subscriber to SCC, I’ve always enjoyed your photography and narration.
