The Car Lovers Guide to Japan, Tomei

This rack was stuffed with parts to make exhausts with. The racks were on wheels so they could be moved around to make room as needed.   The exhaust shop is smaller than a small two-car garage and there is a lot going on here!

Tucked away in the side of the stall where a large band saw, tube benders, belt sanders, and notchers all the stuff needed to make exhausts.

In this corner was a tig welder and a welding table with segments of exhaust pipes in process of being welded in a bunch of tiny pie sections.  JDM style!  Pictures do no justice to show how much equipment was crammed into such a tiny space.

The next area is the engine assembly area. In one corner is the cleaning room.  Here are some solvent tanks and a sink where the rough cleaning starts.

Here is a spray cabinet where core engine parts can be finely cleaned before machining. This cleaning area is literally the size of a broom closet.

  1. TOMEI is one of those aftermarket names I was familiar with but had no experience with. It’s nice to see how much R&D they put into their products. Great article!
