AMS Performance Alpha Deep Transmission Oil Pan and Pickup Relocation Kit for the R35 GT-R

The valve body is lowered away and put aside.

You can see how the shift solenoids move the shift forks.  The GR-6 transmission is really like a manual transmission with computer-controlled shifting and clutch.

The valve body is set aside for inspection.

As you can see the shift solenoids have magnetic metallic fuzz stuck on the pistons.  The pistons have magnets in them that the sensor in the black box picks up so the transmission control unit knows what position the solenoids are in.  The magnetic fuzz interferes with their reading triggering a loss of gears and check engine lights.

We used a magnet to remove most of the fuzz from the solenoids.

  1. Wouldn’t you still want baffles to help keep the oil by the pickup when you’re braking and downshifting? I don’t see the benefit of removing them are aside from a negligible increase in oil capacity.
