Nerd’s Eye View: SEMA 2014 Part I

The rear-end case is fully machined… I’m guessing that’s a speed sensor going into it. Solid rear disk brakes are used to help slow the car down. In the lower right of the picture, I think that may be a load cell in the middle of the bar. Notice the other side is a solid bar. So I guess measuring the load into the chassis is an indicator of how much power is getting down to the ground and how much traction is available. Well, just a guess.
The structure holding the rear wing is both beefy and aerodynamic.
The Pro 4 class racing truck is some really serious hardware. Just check out that chassis! The front-end has up to 18” of travel.
The black rectangular box with the rod coming out should be the hydraulic power steering. There’s a lot of fully-machined goodness going on.
This aluminum rectangular thing is a coolant-oil heat exchanger. The big lines going in and out are for the coolant, and the smaller diameter black hose is for the oil. Just out of the picture on the left is the oil filter.
A big Toyota V8 pushing out upwards of 900hp powers the four wheels. Yes, that’s the driver’s seat you see behind the engine which is basically mounted in the middle of the truck. An Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator seen under the air filter looks to have a fuel pressure sensor attached. Of course, the headers are wrapped in exhaust wrap.
