Nerd’s Eye View: SEMA 2014 Part I

,

I didn’t get a good look at where these side scoops directed air to, but the rear brakes and a rear transaxle cooler are good bets.
I found this rear window support creative. It’s made of carbon fiber for lightness and a V-channel shape to provide tremendous resistance to bending. The rear part of the cage is welded to the shock towers which should help keep the suspension geometry from altering much due to chassis flex.
If you want to haul ass in the desert with three of your bravest friends, this vehicle will do it. King Performance suspension handles the ride.
Power is generated by a twin-turbo V8 with a pair of Garrett by Honeywell GTX4594R turbos which should mean this engine is good for 1800whp. This vehicle is known for pulling and holding wheelies out in the sand. The radiator for the coolant is mounted up high with two puller fans to provide cooling flow. The intercooler is mounted at the rear nearly horizontally. Under that massive pipe going from the IC to the throttle body is one of the two turbos. A pair of Turbosmart blow-off valves is required due the sheer mass flow the two turbos provide. Between the radiator and throttle body pipe is the compressor discharge pipe coming off the driver’s side turbo. The pipe snakes over to the passenger side where the flow for the passenger side turbo merges in at which point the piping increases in diameter.
A close-up of the blow-off valves shows the quality of fittings and lines used in this build. The 90 degree elbow into the intake manifold looks to be custom fabricated. An Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator was used as maximum performance and reliability is required or risk grenading a very expensive engine and turbo setup.
The exhaust manifolds are extensively wrapped for thermal management. Turbosmart wastegates dump the excess exhaust straight out to atmosphere. I’m guessing it’s pretty loud… but that doesn’t matter in the middle of the desert.
