Nerd’s Eye View: SEMA 2014 Part I

,

There’s a lot going on here…. The radiator is mounted out back and high with sucker fans on it to get airflow. The exhaust headers merge at this crossover pipe and dump out the right rear. An oil tank from Peterson Fluid Systems is mounted in the left of the picture for the dry sump system.
The two trailing arms going to the rear axle mount in this central location in the chassis above the drive shaft. The hoop around the driveshaft should keep it relatively in place in case it at breaks at the joint where it enters the transmission. The driveshaft digging into the ground with the truck moving at high velocities would be a bad thing.
As you would expect, everything is pretty stout including the rod going from the sway bar to the axle. This angle gives a view of the arm going from the axle to the central mounting location on the other end. The hard brake line routing is done very tightly to the axle to prevent damage to the line.
Carbon fiber wheels on the Ducati? Yes please. Hey, one key to improving motorcycle performance is to reduce rotational inertia in the wheels making the motorcycle easier to flick side-to-side. The other cool thing? This hydraulically actuated motorcycle ramp which makes for easy loading and unloading of the motorcycles.
Here is the pump driving the hydraulic ram to raise and lower the platform.
I’ll just wrap things up with some fully-machined motorcycle part porn.

So those are just a fraction of the vehicles at SEMA. I’m sure there were a bazillion more interesting ones, these just happen to be the ones that caught my eye while I was in a sleep-deprived and over-caffeinated state. Stay tuned for some interesting parts that also caught my attention.
