Nerd’s Eye View: SEMA 2014 Part I

,

The bottom of the front splitter gets heavily dinged up. The trailing edge of the under body panel has a diffuser leading into the wheel well. On the lower control arm, you can see the standard issue Porsche brake cooling air guide that is used on the street cars.
Something I saw for the first time is that black plastic air guide which looks like a shovel. It is directing air coming out of the oil cooler mounted in the front corner of the bumper towards the brakes for more brake cooling.
I somehow managed to not get a complete picture of the BMW German DTM touring car. The upper ‘grill’ opening is now a blocked off piece of carbon fiber. I should have paid better attention as to if there was an air slot at the top of the ‘grill’ to get air into the engine bay. My bad… Anyway, yes, more mesh o the openings of the front bumper.
A quick release latch on the front bumper allows for easy removal. Regarding the design of the front canards, I find it intriguing how different the designs with respect to the vertical surfaces at the edges. Check out these versus the Porsche, GT-R, and Corvette DP.
Big hood vents and louvers over the front wheel wells, you know it!
On DTM cars, even the side mirrors serve an aero purpose. Front this angle, you can see just how wide the rear track of the car is requiring the massively wide fenders.
