Project Civic EF Racecar: Part 3 – Preparation For First MPTCC Race

,

Since the trans needed to be pulled and opened up for the OS Giken differential install anyways, I had these “Pro Series-Carbon lined” 3rd and 4th gear synchros from Synchrotech-Transmissions thrown in as well.  The gearing on Project EF and the track configuration of most of the local raceways make for heavy use of 3rd and 4th gear.
The carbon fiber lining has improved lock angle and surface contact over the OE brass unit, making for much more positive shift engagment at high rpms. Also the revised oiling grooves provide better lubrication.
Some more good upgrades picked up from Synchrotech included the double bend carbon steel shifter, race shifter bushings, and weighted shift knob.  All these parts in conjunction with the carbon synchros should make a world of difference.
With the headlights pulled, I mocked up where the best location would be to make brackets to mount the external reservoirs for the Fortune Auto coilovers.  Don't worry, zip ties are not my mounting solution,
The earlier mentioned 30 inch line length worked perfectly with this mounting location. The added benefit of using this space for the reservoirs was that it forced me to pull the heavy, glass headlights.
Once again, Anaheim Gear comes through with stellar install service.  I had my S80 transmission back and ready to reinstall in 36 hours.  No issues whatsoever during the install of the new diff and synchros.
