Next, Howard spirals the rings into place on the JE forged pistons. The rings were previously hand filed to blueprint the end gaps for the best leakdown without butting the ends together due to expansion by heat.

The King XP rod bearings are installed on the Brian Crower rods and rod caps. Howard has previously measured and confirmed the rod bearing clearance. The rod clearance is wider and not as critical on these engines.

Next, Howard applies engine oil to the cylinder walls of the block.

Howard oils the ring pack and lightly oils the piston skirts.  Regular oil is used here instead of assembly lube so the rings will seat quickly.
