Building the FR-S FA20 Engine with Stay Crushing, Assembling the Engine!

,

The piston ring compressor tool is placed over the piston to compress the rings so they won’t get snagged on the top of the bore when the piston is tapped in place.

The piston is installed by lightly tapping it into place with a plastic mallet handle. Not much force is used, so if the rings are getting caught, you can stop and readjust the ring compressor tool before a ring is broken.

The pistons are tapped into place and the rod cap is installed and tightened down.

Before assembly, Howard lightly prepped the cylinder walls with a fine grit flex hone. The flex hone will only remove the glaze on the cylinder walls so that the new rings will seat correctly.
