Tragically Awesome – TMB Fabrication’s #Winning Time Attack EG Civic

In the rear Thruxton fabricated a 1” chromoly rear swaybar with 3-position adjustment. Similar to the front suspension, the control arms are fully-adjustable custom units with spherical bearings and Delrin bushings. Unlike the front, TMB essentially re-engineered the Honda rear suspension. The toe arms have been completely removed, and the trailing arms have been modified for less toe change on compression. 16kg/mm springs are used out back.

Rounding out the suspension tuning is a relatively conservative alignment, with 0 degrees of toe everywhere, a relatively tame 6 degrees of caster, and negative camber of -3 degrees and -2 degrees front and rear, respectively.

If there’s one thing that ties all time attack and lap battle cars together these days, it’s aero. And the TMB Fabrication EG Civic is no exception.

Front splitter and canard assembly sitting on ground
Massive splitters and lots of canards are usually found on any respectable time attack vehicle.

TMB made a big ol’ splitter out of plywood, “tested to 700lb”. How was the testing performed? Booth kept having more people stand on the lip. The lip touched the ground due to suspension compression before it broke. It was about 700lb worth of people at that point. The whole assembly is an integrated unit, with the canards/winglets attached.

Dowel-like splitter mount attached under frame rail
The splitter has slots on stands which slide onto these dowel-like mounts to hold it in place and help transmit forces into the chassis (instead of into the bumper).
Trucker aligning the stantions of the splitter with the front bumper mounting points
The stays tie into the front bumper via the front brace that we mentioned earlier. This also helps the splitter direct force solidly into the chassis, instead of just flexing the bumper.
