Project S2000: Part 27 – Building the F22c for Turbo Boost and Manifold Test Fit

  • Khiem Dinh

The S2000 application from HPS uses silicone hose with 3-ply of polyester fiber reinforcement for extra strength.

When the engine is out is the absolute best time to replace all the coolant hoses. Good luck trying to reach under and around the intake manifold to replace these hoses with the engine in the car.

HPS provides these hoses to replace the stock ones at the heater core.

This hose goes from the engine to the radiator. Again, it’s much easier to install when the engine is out.

For the clutch, we went with an ACT Heavy Duty pressure plate working in conjunction with an OEM Honda disc. This is a known combo which is good for around 350wtq. ACT rates their HD pressure plate with their street disc at 370 lb-ft. I’m only planning on 320 lb-ft of torque at the crank (about double the stock 162 lb-ft), so it should be well within the capability of this combo. A new OEM bearing was installed to go with the clutch. Initial thoughts on the clutch in a bit. As for the Centerforce, there were absolutely no complaints, but it was designed as a mild upgrade and not for double the torque we are planning on transmitting.

Before everything was installed back to running condition, we test fit our plastic turbo manifold on the engine while in the engine bay to check clearances. If you recall, we used a tape measure to take rough measurements of the space we had to work with in the engine bay.

This is the my setup that I’ve been running for years. It sounds like your best bet is to have a shop do a custom setup for you.
