We also brought out our custom Bell Intercoolers air-to-water intercooler to try a couple orientations. One possible orientation is to squeeze it between the front cross member and the front of the engine. It does kinda fit, but I wasn’t that with the clearances to various parts.

I also wasn’t happy with the tight turn from the intercooler outlet to the throttle body.

Sliding it down lower, there would be challenges with routing of the oil hoses for remote mounting the oil filter and also finding space for the compressor inlet tube and air filter.

So I think we’re just going to mount it in place of the stock airbox which is basically how I mocked up the cardboard IC cutout when I came up with this hairbrained idea.

To break in our freshly built engine, we broke it in naturally aspirated in order to avoid any issues with the tune related to bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, etc. As we lowered the compression ratio, there were no worries about knock with the tune we had in the Hondata KPro.  So up onto the SuperFlow dyno. Not only did we need to break in the engine, but we had to break in the clutch too.

Using this SuperFlow dyno controller, we were able to control the load of the dyno. I found that initially, 10% load felt like highway cruising in 6th gear. About halfway through the break-in session, I had to increase the dyno load to 12% to make it feel like cruising load. So that indicated to me that the engine was loosening up a bit and the piston rings were getting broken in. I’d read it takes about 20-30 miles to break in the piston rings, so I guess my sample size of one correlates with that.
